Website chat widget
Add an AI chat assistant to your website, choose how it looks and behaves, and control where it can run.
The website widget adds a chat bubble to your site. Visitors give their name and email, then chat with an AI assistant trained on your content — and every visitor becomes a lead you can follow up.
Set up the widget
Open Widget Settings in the Admin Panel.
- Switch the widget on with the toggle.
- Fill in Bot Identity, AI Configuration and, if you like, Limits & Access (see below).
- Click Save Settings. The first save generates your Widget Key and Embed Snippet.
Add it to your website
Copy the Embed Snippet and paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page where the widget should appear:
<script src="https://YOUR_WORKSPACE_DOMAIN/widget/chatbot.js?v=…" data-key="YOUR_WIDGET_KEY" defer></script>
Copy the snippet from Widget Settings rather than typing it — it already contains your workspace domain and key. It works anywhere you can add a script tag, including custom sites, WordPress and Shopify.
Settings
| Section | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Bot Identity | Bot Name | Shown in the chat header. Assistant by default. |
| Welcome Message | The first message visitors see. | |
| Theme Color | The colour of the bubble, the header and visitors’ messages. The preview shows the result. | |
| AI Configuration | OpenAI API Key | Your own OpenAI key. Test Connection checks it. |
| Max Tokens | Maximum reply length, from 50 to 4,000 tokens. | |
| Temperature | From 0 (precise) to 2 (creative). | |
| System Prompt | Instructions for the assistant. Leave it blank to use the default prompt. | |
| Limits & Access | Daily Message Cap | Stops answering after this many replies in a day — a safety valve for cost. Leave it blank for unlimited. |
| Allowed Domains | One domain per line, for example example.com. The widget then only works on those domains and their subdomains. Leave it blank to allow any website. |
Changes apply as soon as you save. Widgets already on your site pick them up with their next reply.
What visitors see
- A chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of the page.
- The first time they open it, a short form asking for their name and email.
- Your welcome message, then the conversation with the assistant.
Returning visitors on the same browser carry on where they left off.
Limits
- When the Daily Message Cap is reached, the widget tells visitors it has hit its daily limit until the next day.
- Your package may limit new widget conversations per month. When that’s reached, new visitors are asked to try again later.
- On a site that isn’t in Allowed Domains, the widget shows “This domain is not authorized to use this widget.”
Regenerating the key
Regenerate Widget Key issues a new key, and the old one stops working immediately. Update the embed snippet on every website afterwards.
To build your own chat interface instead of using the bubble, see Widget embed & API.
